TSURIAMI

The TSURIAMI collection is one of WASEW’s signatures, crafted using traditional loopwheel knitting machines.

The origins of these machines date back to the late 19th century, when Swiss-made knitting machines were first introduced to Wakayama, Japan. Through repeated repairs and careful maintenance, these old machines continue to operate today.

Using these rare, slow-knitting machines, WASEW recreates the texture and character found in true vintage garments.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

Not vintage-inspired, but true vintage garments.
Textures once lost to production efficiency are recreated through the hands of Japanese craftsmen.

Knitting

編み
A traditional method where fabric is slowly knitted on machines suspended from the ceiling, using the fabric’s own weight. This minimizes tension on the yarn, creating natural stitches and a uniquely soft texture.

Textile

ヴィンテージコットン
Slow-knitted loopwheel fabric is known for its natural texture and durability. Cut-and-sew pieces are made in tubular construction for comfort, while sweatshirts are finished in heavyweight fabric for a tougher feel.

Cutting

裁断
To preserve the natural character of the knitted fabric, each piece is carefully cut without applying unnecessary tension, maintaining the soft texture unique to loopwheel fabric.

Sewing

縫製
Sewn in select factories in Japan, incorporating vintage-inspired construction such as tubular bodies for cut-and-sew pieces, and side ribs and flat seams for sweatshirts.
