The WASEW "CREW NECK PACK TEE" is made using loopwheel fabric that can only be produced in Wakayama, Japan.
Although loopwheel knitting dates back to the Meiji era, WASEW chose this slow and inefficient method instead of modern high-speed machines. This decision reflects a commitment that could not be compromised.
Here, we introduce the story behind the brand’s first item — the "CREW NECK PACK TEE".
History of Loopwheel Knitting

Loopwheel knitting in Wakayama began over 100 years ago, when Swiss-made knitting machines were introduced during the Meiji era. The technique reached its peak after WWII, but gradually disappeared in the 1970s as high-speed machines became dominant for efficiency.
Knitting Air into Fabric

The loopwheel machine is literally suspended from the ceiling. As the fabric is knitted, it falls naturally under its own weight, minimizing tension on the yarn. This allows the yarn to remain relaxed, creating a fabric that feels as if air is woven into it.
Three Essential Requirements

"Authentic vintage texture", "Not see-through", and "A feel so soft you forget you're wearing it." These three conditions were essential. After three years of development and testing, only loopwheel knitting met all requirements.
Stress-Free Comfort

The PACK TEE fabric is knitted in a seamless tubular form using loopwheel machines. The slow knitting process and lack of side seams create a comfortable fit that feels almost weightless.
Unexpected Popularity

After its release, purchases from women began to increase. Many noticed the unique texture after washing their partner’s shirts. The fabric’s opacity also allows it to be worn alone during summer. Today, it has become a popular item enjoyed by both men and women.
